Round-link anchorchains
Today, round-link anchor chains (GOST 228-95) are used not only in the fleet, but also for the needs of oceanic oil platforms, floating docks, wharves, barges and other similar areas.
Anchor chains are used in many other economic sectors: mining and metallurgy, forestry and fishing, in agriculture, if the chains will be subjected to heavy loads during operation.
Conventionally, all anchor chains can be:divided into two groups
By strength:
1. Normal strength (steel category 1a) – welded and forged chains, gauge – from 11 to 73 mm, with a destructive load from 51 to 1990 kN;
2. Increased strength (steel categories 2a and 2b) – welded and forged (caliber – from 12.5 to 162 mm), with a destructive load from 92 to 10,100 kN. Cast – with a caliber from 40 to 152 mm and a destructive load from 896 to 10,100 kN;
3. Especially high strength (steel categories 3a and 3b) – welded and forged (caliber from 20.5 to 152 mm), with a destructive load from 349 to 14430 kN, cast (caliber from 40 to 152 mm), with a destructive load from 12 14430.
According to the manufacturing method:
Forge and mine welding, cast (used in high demand), electrowelded and stamped;
Features of anchor round-link chains
Ship’s anchor chains are connected using a “Kentera” connecting link made of several loops (the length of the latter must be at least 25 mm and not more than 27 mm).
To prevent twisting of the chain, the anchor bow (attached to the anchor) must contain a swivel.
If the caliber of the chain links is more than 15 mm, they are provided with buttresses (transverse struts increase the strength of the link by 20%).
